Thumb buttons
The CAD mouse has two thumb buttons for fast zoom in and out. When you do not feel like infinitely rolling the wheel, this is the best way to go.
Middle dedicated button
Panning is important while designing in CAD. This is usually done by clicking on the scroll wheel and holding which is sometimes hard to do depending on the computer mouse you are using.
